You won’t want to miss this exciting event!

Of Most Extraordinary Importance:

A large, comprehensive, handwritten journal of the Meriwether family compiled by Major Minor Meriwether, CSA, after the Civil War.  Included are original letters, documents (Minor Meriwether’s special orders and appointments during the Civil War, signed by Seddons, Rives, Withers, etc.), newspaper clippings, currency (1781 $150. Virginia currency, Confederate paper, including 1863 $100. bond and 1864 $500. bond, other Confederate notes), wills (1765 will of William Douglas of Goochland, father-in-law of Nicholas Meriwether; 1875 will of Avery Meriwether), indentures, Confederate cipher, and much more dating from the 1700’s through the early 1900’s. Detailed are Mr. Meriwether’s personal thoughts on religion and the Civil War, among many other topics, as well as his family history from the time of their immigration to America, specifically from Louisa, Orange, Albemarle, and Hanover counties in Virginia, on to rural, unsettled Kentucky and Memphis, TN. Mentioned are many well-known American forefathers in connection with Meriwether ancestral personal experiences. There is a veritable treasure trove of genealogical data, as well as side comments, to be found, too.

Also offered will be a large number of Meriwether family photographs (men (some in uniform), women, children (some in military school uniform); some overseas, etc.).

Several of the most interesting books written by members of the Meriwether family (Lee, Elizabeth Avery Meriwether, etc.) – “Recollections of 92 Years 1824-1916” by Elizabeth Avery Meriwether (The Tennessee Historical Commission, 1958); “My First 100 Years 1862-1962” by Lee Meriwether; “The Meriwethers and Their Connections” by Louisa H. A. Minor (Munsell’s, 1892); “Records of Lewis, Meriwether and Kindred Families” compiled by Lottie Wright Davis (Artcraft, 1951); etc. – will be auctioned, as well. The Meriwether family, obviously through the recollections found in these books, rode the crest of American culture and politics from the time of the family’s arrival in America.

This is a most rare opportunity to acquire  American history from a personal perspective!

(all of the above found in journal and sold as one lot along with Meriwether family photo album)

Two photo cards of Jefferson Davis presented to Minor Meriwether by Mr. Davis himself
 (along with documentation).

Several of the most interesting books written by members of the Meriwether family (Lee, Elizabeth Avery Meriwether, etc.) will auctioned, as well.
